T450s Unable to Start Lenovo Vantage Successfully after Windows 10 1809 Feature Update

2018-12-24, 4:17 AM

I noticed this morning that attempts to start Lenovo Vantage would return the following error:

"Vantage has Encountered a Problem

Please restart your computer and try again.

If the problem continues, click the Install button below to install or update the Lenovo System Interface Driver."

The problem persisted through a reboot and installation of the Lenovo System Interface Driver (currently running version 1.1.17.1, and am uncertain what the previous version was).

The last major change was the installation of Windows 10 64-bit 1809 feature update. There had been a number of minor changes covering Windows security updates and driver updates triggered by Vantage itself since I last used Vantage.

Has anyone faced this problema and know the solution?

Would appreciate any advice.

Happy Holidays BTW.

I also noticed yesterday that when attempting to use "Automatic Driver Update" feature from "Drivers and Software" section in https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/, I was returned the message:

"System Update

There is no system update application (TVSU) installed to your computer, please click to install.

Click here to learn more about system update (TVSU)."

I installed TVSU (which is Lenovo System Update 5.07.0074 (System-Interface-Foundation-Update-64.exe)) and reboot the ThinkPad, but the problem persisted.

Could Lenovo System Interface drivers be broken by Windows 10 1809 Feature Update?

Would appreciate any thoughts.

Have a Blessed New Year!

What do you see in Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Devices and Printers?  Please take a screenshot and post it here.

Hi someotherguy,

I still see the devices. The requested screenshot is as follows:

I noticed that, after the reboot, DeviceMetadataStore and Device Stage folders continues to be empty, while DeviceMetadataCache is repopulated.

I also noticed that all recreated files in DeviceMetadataCache bear the current date and time, with the exception of file ec4d5fdd-aa12-400f-83e2-7b0ea6023eb7.devicemetadata-ms which dates back to April last year.

Note that I followed the steps from zfdbd's post at message 14, to delete the content of these 3 folders followed by a reboot.

Would appreciate any correction.

Sorry someotherguy,

Please ignore me. I had previously moved the content of the 3 folders into a backup directory within each respective folder.

What I had just done this round, is to move them to a backup directory within the Download folder, effectively making these 3 folders empty prior to the reboot.

I was able to launch Lenovo Vantage now.

Thanks for the help. Appreciate it!
