This Lenovo Forum thread has a reply form a Lenovo moderator that states that the T450s has 4GB memory soldered to systemboard and one 204-pin SO-DIMM socket, so on your system the SO-DIMM slot probably has a 4GB SO-DIMM installed.     From what he states, if you have a 5th generation  CPU you could go as high as 20GB if you added a single 16GB SO-DIMM, but they are a bit pricey.

Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM  - $46.99

DDR3L PC3L-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3L-1600 • 1.35V • 1024Meg x 64

Crucial 16GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM  - $159.99

DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.35V • 2048Meg x 64

If you Right Click on Start and select System  -or -  click Start >> Control Panel select All Control Panel Items  and then select System, it will bring up a system properties page.

On that page, it will list the processor as something like Intel(R) Core(TM)  i5-<number> ............... etc.       That number will begin with a 4, 5 or 6 and that number denotes the generation of the CPU.     So for instance, a Intel(R) Core(TM)  i5-4460 is a 4th generation CPU.

Cheers,

Hi. I just got myself Thinkpad T450s with 4GB memory. I wanted to upgrade it to 8GB. I got Samsung 4GB 1Rx8 PC3L-12800s-11-13-B4 memory stick. When I put it in laptop doesn't turn on, when I remove it laptop works fine. I did some research and it seems this memory should work. It is low voltage module. I cannot test memory anywhere else but was wondering if someone can confirm this module is compatible. If yes looks like I have faulty module or faulty memory port on the laptop.

The low-voltage is the wrong one. Instead of PC3L, you want PC3, like so:

DDR3 1600 MHz PC3-12800 SODIMM 204 pin Sodimm Laptop Memory RAM DDR3L (from NewEgg)

The 1866MHz is the same, except it'll have "PC3-14900" instead of "PC3-12800." It doesn't really matter which one you get, they'll work together fine, just at the slower speed.

After you change RAM, the first boot can take quite some tome.  I have seen up to 2 minutes.  The system checks timings and configures the slots.  I turn it on and go get a cup of coffee.
