T460 - 1 TB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe

2016-07-31, 15:53 PM

Do the T460s and T460p use the same motherboard? I ask because there is an option for a  "1 TB Solid State Drive PCIe-NVMe" on the T460s, but not yet showing on the T460p. I also wonder who makes this drive, and can we add it to our existing T460p? That was one thing I had wished for (more space than the highest option 512GB SSD) when odrering the T460p, but it wasn't available on this unit.

This topic seems to have varied answers.  Mine is based on experience with Both machines: A T460 20FNCTO1WW i7-6600u And Two T460p models 20FWCTO1WW i5-6440HQ and 20FWCTO1WW i7-6820HQ.

The T460 & T460P are similar but don't share the same motherboard.  They do both have a 42mm M.2 slot. It's mentioned in the Hardware Maintenance Manual for both the WAN option and M.2 SSD.  I don't see any way to shoehorn an NVMe in there, to my (limited) knowledge NVMe are all 80mm. There are extender boards, but the slot is still only SATA III so I don't see how it would offer any advantage.  I'm open to enlightenment.  My 850 Pro is quick, but I'd love to stuff a 950 Pro NVME in there.
