T460: win7 pro, cpu i5, 8gb RAM, 256gb SSD, 1920x1080IPS, hd520 graphics, single external battery.
Drivers updated from Lenovo site. Latest BIOS.
Problem: when runnign on batteries the screen gets black randomly.
Once it is black:
- esc+fn still toggles green light on FN key
- keyboard light works and can be cotrolled
- power button green, lid button red
- fn+sound off does not work (res led do not show)
- nothing else works, the only solution is 20 sec press on power key to force shutdown
The laptop is 6 monhts old.
So far the problem was observed on battery only.
Sometimes happen when working actively, most of the time when computer goes to sleep
or screen switches off.
External HDMI is also switched off when it happens.
Looking for ideas hot to resolve this issue.
thanks a lot for any hints,

Some more about the issue.
When HD520 driver is disbaled the system is stable.
When I move the 8GB from the first memory slot to the second slot,
right after windows login screen th escreen gets black if HD520 driver is used.
In safe mode, memory in the second slot work fine - Windows starts fine
and runs stable.
Is this memory issue or motherboard ? or something else ?
thanks a lot for any help/hints.

I am having the exact same problem. Screen goes black randomly on bootup. Hard reset of power seems to bring it back fine. Today it just happened when the laptop was idle for a few minutes (on battery). Is this a software/driver issue or a hardware issue? Hope someone has found a solution for this issue! thanks,

Why won't the Lenovo re-boot after prolonged sitting??
This is a pretty fundamental yet ongoing issue with this manufacturer. I would not buy a Lenovo for this reason. Came from my employer but now forcing me to drive another hour round trip to exchange it out..again. On line support is mia , ambiguous and too techie for me.
