T460p Intel PTT EK Recertification Service High CPU usage

2017-12-06, 3:13 AM

Hi all,

I bought this laptop used (my third Thinkpad) and it has its original Windows 10 Pro installed (it was an ex-display model at amy local store).

As soon as it boots you can hear the fan going full speed. At the top of CPU usage I always get Intel PTT EK Recertification Service process at around 25-30% constant.

The UEFI is set to PTT instead of TPM1.2, but this seems like a software issue. Currently I kill the service from the Task Manager, but I think this causes some issues.

Some times I find that third party programs will not launch on double boot. As soon as I reboot they work again. I am not sure the two issues are related, there seems to be a correlation but I am not sure.

So, any ideas about why Intel PTT service hogs the CPU? How to stop this (without killing the service)? Anybody else has this issue? And finally is it worth disabling PTT altogether from the UEFI?

Thanks in advance.

Alex

I have this same issue on my Yoga 14.  Did you ever find a solution?  I turned off PTT and that fixed it but I could no longer use certain security features on my laptop so I turned it back on and it still had the CPU issue.

I gave up and reinstalled Windows from lenovo recovery. All good now.

Sorry I can't offer a better solution.

Re: T460p Intel PTT EK Recertification Service High CPU usage

Hi, I have exactly the same issue, which started a few weeks ago.   If I leave the machine for 30 mins or so after boot, the PTT EK Recertification process closes itself and all is well, but I can't use it during that time otherwise it locks.  The laptop is about 6 months old and had been working fine.  I really don't want to reinstall Windows.   Does anyone have any idea why this has started happening?

Many thanks

Sorry, I can't offer anything better. My research came up with NOTHING. As if this does not exist. I wanted to re-install anyway for other reasons so it wasn't too bad, but I can feel your pain.

Looks like there are other reports of the issue too:

https://communities.intel.com/thread/120314

No solutions yet though other than to disable the process.  Once that is done everything works fine.

The IntelPTTEKRecertification text file on my PC shows a connection error:

"2017-12-19 09:42:13:389 00000000000026ac IntelPTTEKRecertification: [INF] [N/A] EK recertification started.

Does anyone have any further suggestions please?

Many thanks

John

Hello,

I'm having the exact same issue on a Thinkpad X1 Carbon 4th edition.

Did you find a solution or did you find the Service to disable in order to avoid the  IntelPTTEKRecertification process to be started automatically every time I restart my laptop ?

Thanks and kind regards

I am simply ending the process via Task Manager each time I restart the laptop.  A bit inconvenient but doing so doesn't appear to cause my problems.  Would still like to find  better solution though....

I did a ful re-install -minus any lenovo bloatware and it seemed to work.  I haven't seen the problem come back since.
