T460s BIOS 1.16 flaky pre-desktop behavior

Ever since I installed BIOS 1.16 on my T460s the pre-desktop fingerprint authentication has become flaky. Here's the scenario:

If I haven't used the system at the start of the day, the first boot fails to look for the fingerprint reader and requests the power on password (and HDD pswd)

If I power it down (w/o entering the passwords) and then power up, the fingerprint reader lights and the system requests my fingerprint.

If I shut down the system and then power it on later in the day, it will still ask me for the fingerpint.

If I power on the system the NEXT day, the first scenario occurs and it won't request the fingerprint again.

It seems that going to the next date is triggering the issue. Has anyone else experience this?
