After receiving my T470 I added a 16GB stick of Crucial DDR4 memory and noticed it gets hot while the laptop is suspended; battery usage while suspended is also quite high.
I tried this stick alone in both slots and the same thing happens. Of course, with the stock Samsung RAM alone, this does not happen. It stays nice and cool when suspended.
This happens with Windows and Linux, so I don't think its an OS issue.

I am not an electrical engineer, but DDR4 memory is supposed to go into a low power sleep state. Something isn't working the way I think it should, and if the original memory doesn't get hot, my guess is that your 16gb stick is the problem. I don't know if it is a defective stick or the entire model.

How do you know it is getting hot (Have the rear cover off, through software...although I don't know of such a sensor)? In any event, as far as ideas, did you order Crucial RAM that is certified by Crucial to work in the T470? This is how I ordered my 16GB of RAM for the T470:

Well, I think I used that to place my order for this (via Amazon). But now I see the part #'s don't match up.
What I got:
What the compatibility guide says I need:
But they kind of look identical, but perhaps not close enough.

The laptop was getting hotter when suspended than while running. So I took the back off, and just did some tests. It only takes a few seconds after entering suspend to feel the Crucial cheap heatup with your finger.
