T470 SSD slow write speed

Hello, I just got my new Thinkpad T470 and I have been happy with it except for the SSD. I got an 512 gb model from the factory. I did run crystaldiskmark and results are:

Seq Q32TI 1746/322

4K Q32TI 358/137

Seq 1006/357

4K 38/81

I think those write speeds are really low for an pcie ssd, what do you think? There is screenshot about the results attached.

Re: T470 SSD slow write speed

Hello and welcome to the Community

Is the SSD Samsung manufactured? If "yes", this behavior might be explained by default OS (win10 ?) drivers for NVME Controller installed. I had similar issue in T470p with SSD Samsung PM961. AS SSD' write test lasted more than 10 minutes with very low scores. In real work some SSD freezing were noticable either.

Installation of native Samsung NVME drivers resolved issue. But I suspect further SSD fw update from Lenovo site will not be possible with those Samsung drivers, so temporary drivers downgrade to standard OS drivers might be needed.

Re: T470 SSD slow write speed

Hey. I don't think my SSD is made by Samsung. I have "LENSE20512GMSP34MEAT2TA", this is from msinfo32. Would guess this drive is made by Lenovo?

Re: T470 SSD slow write speed

FCC ID DB claims this disk is manufactured by Lenovo (Beijing) Limited

This original Lenovo drive should have FRU # 00UP471 on the label.

Re: T470 SSD slow write speed

I knew about the speed issue with NVME SSD and standard MS drivers earlier, but don't remember the cases whether another drives except of, for instance, some models of Samsung, Lite-On (Plextor) could be affected. I don't know anything about Lenovo branded SSDs in ThinkPads, about their performance. Sorry about that.

If you'll Google "NVME SSD slow write speed", you'll get tens of thousands links with different solutions.

Is your laptop new one, purchased from official Lenovo store or reseller?

I don't know how Lenovo Authorized Service Provider will interpreter this case, what will be performed.

Could you, please, take a look at Standard NVME Controller options in Device Manager for its IDs? Double click, Details tab, Option list, Hardware IDs entry. Copy the values from the field below and past here. What for? There a chance to find compatible drivers.

Re: T470 SSD slow write speed

The laptop is a week old and bought straight from Lenovo website. Found the hardware IDs:

PCI\VEN_17AA&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_100417AA&REV_00
PCI\VEN_17AA&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_100417AA
PCI\VEN_17AA&DEV_0004&CC_010802
PCI\VEN_17AA&DEV_0004&CC_0108

Thanks for the help already at this point!

EDIT: I disabled write cache buffer flushing for the disk and the write speed is now 1300 MB/s! How one tickbox can affect the performance so much?

Re: T470 SSD slow write speed

Yes, this is one of the most significant solution. Just read explanations, on MS site including. Take a note for data transfering releability, but in case of laptops with dual power source - AC and battery - this fear doesn't seem important IMHO.

In my case this trick didn't help.
