T470 Thinkpad Fingertprint reader

Hello guys,

I have a T470 Thinpad 20HE but the fingerprint reader no longer works. It is dead and I am convinced it is a hardware problem since the device no longer shows up in device manager and not detected in BIOS.

My question for you guys is wether it is possible to replace the Fingerprint reader with a new one or is it married to the motherbord of my computer and can't be replaced.

Thnaks a lot

Re: T470 Thinkpad Fingertprint reader

When my T470 fingerprint reader was acting up they replaced:

1) Miscellaneous Card

2) Miscellaneous Cable

3) System board w/CPU

Re: T470 Thinkpad Fingertprint reader

The parts are not married.  If they replaced all 3, I would guess they replaced the little reader (card) itself and the cable that attaches it to the motherboard first.  When that didn't fix the problem, the only other part  involved is the USB hub which is part of the motherboard.
