T470 doesn't recognise USB-C Dock 40A9 anymore

Hi,

Since today, my Lenovo T470 cannot recognise my 40A9 USB-C Dock anymore. Nothing coming through: no external displays, LAN, power etc.

What I've tried so far:

- Updated to Thinkpad USB-C Dock Driver version V10015 (Mar. 2019)

- Tried similar USB-C dock's from colleagues --> Not working

- Tried a similar T470 from colleauge on this USB-C dock --> Works fine

- Checked and installed all windows updates

- Checked whether the UCSI USB connector manager had best driver, which it did: version: 10.0.17134.1

- Failed in installing the new USB-C dock firmware to v3.7, as I get the error: "Thinkpad USB-C Dock can't be detected"

Other info:

- Windows Pro 10, version 10.0.17134, 64 bit

- Don't see any errors in the Device Manager

Does anybody have any tips?

Thank you,

Gjalt

Would any

Please download and unzip this:  https://1drv.ms/u/s!ApXWjQB7_a1bhf57A-pDSSada9N7XA

Then, open a command prompt as administrator, change to the folder where you unzipped it, and run detect1810.exe.

Please paste the output here, it should look something like this:

Have same issue with A285/A485 and X280.

When I run detect1810 on my A285 it says bios is old.

But it is not. I run ver. 1.10 and that is the one you have on your website

This is a thunderbolt detect tool and A285/A485 don't have thunderbolt.

Aahh that's true.

But the USB-C docks still don't work on those 3 models

Re: T470 doesn't recognise USB-C Dock 40A9 anymore

Hi,

Thanks for the reply,

I ran the detect1810 file, but the output closes right after the program finishes, returns to the prompt. Any simple action to get this to stay?

As far as I can see the output was (before it closed):

- TB NVM firmware version: 4.00

Cheers,

Gjalt

That firmware version is very old.  Can you please update it from here?

Re: T470 doesn't recognise USB-C Dock 40A9 anymore

Hi,

I updated the FW to 17.00, please see new output for the Detect1810 program.

Unfortunately, the problem remains.

Would you have any other suggestions?

Cheers,

Gjalt

Re: T470 doesn't recognise USB-C Dock 40A9 anymore

I just want to confirm something.  You don't even get power from the dock, as shown in attached photo?  Notice that I don't have AC power adapter attached to ThinkPad.  I only have USB-C cable from dock, and the power is coming from the dock.

If you don't get power in the same configuration as my attached photo, it must be a hardware problem in the ThinkPad.  So try this:

1.  shutdown

2.  unplug power and dock

3.  remove the battery

4.  unbend a paperclip and press it into the reset hole on the bottom

5.  attach battery and see if problem still happens
