Re: T470s-WWAN sierra EM7455 card doesn't recognize sim card

There are tens of similar threads on the forum, with the same issue, even with the same modem in the ThinkPads x70.

A lot of them have accepted solutions. As I analyzed, most of issues are caused by:
- unproper SIM card insertion. According to the laptops User Guides the SIM card should be inserted while the laptop is powered off completely (in Windows - via Shift key)
- the modem's firmware as it might be outdated for win10 version (update)
- win10 update applyed
- broken SIM card reader's pins as it's fragile enough. The pins might be even dirty, so the electrical contact is lost. Another cause is a gap between the SIM card's contact pads and the reader's pins due to the card holder

The latter reason needs the SIM reader, pins, holder to be inspected, wiped.

As for the 1st and, sometimes, 2nd reason the solution might be the modem reset. Different forum members performed that by different ways:
- reboot the laptop with the SIM card inserted
- power off the laptop completely, power on
- disable/enable the airplan mode in Windows
- disable the WirelessWAN port in the BIOS Setup (Security menu, I/O Port Access), save the settings, boot the laptop, enter the BIOS Setup, enable the WWAN port, save, boot
- remove the wwan modem from the slot, wait several minuts, reinsert it. Internal battery pack (if it's present) should be disabled in the BIOS Setup, as well as external battery pack and the AC charger should be disassembled. You can't believe me, but I partici[pated in two cases there where the members got a success after removing of both wwan and wlan cards and reinserting them in this sequence only - 1)wwan 2)wlan. I still can't explain this behavior
- the modem fw update. The result isn't the recent fw only, the modem will be reset completely. The method to perform the fw update depends on the modem drivers package installed, different packages versions had/have different fw tools kit. Also, usually the fw update service should force the fw update in the auto mode, itself, depending on the SIM card inserted, fw versions in the modem and packge. The recent modem drivers package includes the tool SwiFwUpdateUI, but I did't test it yet, how to update the fw using this tool
- the modem drivers installation, update. This process should force the fw update either and, as mentioned above, the modem reset.

As for a win10 update it's unpredictably.

FYI, the fw in your modem is outdated., the drivers package includes newer fw. Its update in the auto mode depends on the SIM card (cellular operator) data either.

I hope something above will help.

Re: T470s-WWAN sierra EM7455 card doesn't recognize sim card

1. Current status of the wwan modem is changed.

Have a look at the outup of the command
> netsh mbn sh rad int=*
>
> Software radio state : Off

This causes an error for the command
> netsh mbn sh vis int=*

Is airplan mode disabled?

2. Regarding the modem fw:
the recent fw in the drivers package is SWI9X30C_02.27.01.00
and Generis PRI image is SWI9X30C_02.27.01.00_GENERIC_002.029_000

3. Drivers.
I'm surprised that Sierra's drivers can't be installed. What's happening? What's the error, message you get?

There should be a tool SwiFwUpdateUI.exe installed as a part of the Sierra drivers package. According to its name, it seems a fw update tool, it should be launched from the command prompt window (cmd). Try this, without keys/parameters to get a help and parameters.

4. You wrote:
> i think all the physical parts are fine since there is a while i can use the wwan card properly.

I agree. At the same time the SIM card has been reinserted several times.
