T480 Impact of 32GB on battery?

2019-01-14, 20:27 PM

I bought a T480 back in March 2018 and the first thing I did was to put 32GB RAM ( 2 x 16GB Crucial CT16G4SFD824A.C16F).

I always found the battery life to be low... Around 4h in a youtube video playback loop.  I would kill it faster than that doing "real work".

Yesterday, as a test, I remove the 2 memory stick and put back the original 8GB that came with the laptop.

It seems 32GB kils the battery more than I expected.

With low level brightness and idling, Lenovo Vantage gives me those number for the power draw (in Watts):
32GB:  Around 7-8 Watts
8GB: Around 3-4 Watts

My question is: Does having 32GB really consumes that much power?  I've read that some have issues with the Crucial memory where they use more power than they should (low power).

Anyone with 32GB can confirm their battery life is impacted that much or not?  And if not, provide the model of the ram, I'll order some! :)
