I just ordered a T480 for son for college. I'd like to buy him a USB-C "travel monitor" (eg. the AOC 1601FWUX or the Asus MB169B+). These sorts of monitors are only connected by USB-C (for both signal and power). Will that work on a T480?
Obviously the T480 has USB-C ports (two of them):
From the stated specs, both have can perform the function of a DisplayPort connection, so I guess that the answer is "yes, this will work." However, the some of the travel monitors state that the computer must support "USB-C DP Alt Mode." I can't figure out whether the T480 supports "USB-C DP Alt Mode." I've searched this forum and the specs, but found nothing specifically on this.
I realize that if I also bought one of the Lenovo Docks, that he could run a second monitor. However, the goal is to use a "travel monitor" which he can stuff in his backpack along with the T480 and won't need anything but a USB-C cable (properly rated for USB 3.x data transmission) to run it.

Hi SoonerLater! As per the product reference: https://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_T480 and the user guide: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/t480_ug_en.pdf, you can extend the display externally from the USB-C port to USB-C port, HDMI to HDMI or HDMI to VGA, DP to DP or USB-C to DP.
