T480s 128 GB Solid State Drive, SATA3 M.2 upgrade later to Samsung 960 PRO M.2 NVMe 1Tb SSD

Just what the title says - if I select the cheapest option of storage, will I be able to upgrade to a SSD with pcie level performance? Or is the slot/hardware different with the cheaper storage option?

Can easily get Samsung pm981 in eBay.

The real/write speed almost X 3 than your current m.2 SATA.

Evo 970s are out and good value right now for 1TB. Should be 400 USD. I upgraded x1c6 with one. I think PM981 is very similar in performance as well. I think it's the OEM 970 evo from what I read.

This answer is so ambiguous it's practically a non sequitur.

Is the answer "No, only one slot configuration." or "Yes, only one slot configuration." ?

According to many people online, the T480s M.2 slot accepts both SATA3 (B+M key) and NVMe (M key), so you should have no problem buying the cheapest configuration with SATA3 and upgrading later to NVMe. However, I am not able to confirm this myself, as I do not have the equipment.
