T480s Thunderbolt firmware update error after 1.33 BIOS update

2019-08-15, 15:53 PM

Lenovo Vantage updated the T480s BIOS on 8/9. I immediately started getting a Thunderbolt error when starting Windows 10 64, which says to update the Thunderbolt firmware. I downloaded the current firmware from Lenovo (n22th06w) but I get the following error when trying to update: 0x20D SDK_INVALID_OPERATION_IN_SAFE_MODE

What's the solution, Lenovo?

Thanks.

No luck after the reset. Do I need to downgrade the BIOS? Find a copy of the older Thunderbolt driver?

Downgrade will never work is blocked, security reasons.

Is this failing hardware? Can you get the controller out of safe mode?

On my computer the reset button was working, I was able to get out from the safe mode.

I tried resetting a few more times, no luck. For a while the controller disappeared until I reset it again with different BIOS settings for Thunderbolt BIOS assist mode. Once it's back, it's still stuck in safe mode.

1.34 BIOS update today, no change. So, is there a proper way to contact support for a warranty ticket? Because the new "managedtechnicalsupportaccess" site is not working. I'm really shocked at the lack of support. I also was thinking of extending my warranty, but now that it's close to ending, the option to extend to 4 years is gone, only one year for way too much. Well, this looks like my last Lenovo!

Cheers.

Update: the motherboard and CPU were replaced under warranty to fix the problem.
