T480s in-the-box power adaptor 45W or 65W?

2018-11-23, 8:42 AM

Hi all,

I have just received my T480s ordered from a local store. After unboxing, I just found out that the charger is 45W instead of 65W like I saw from unboxing clips on Youtube. Should it be 45W, or the power adapter could be varied by regions?

Many thanks,

Ben

It doesnt depend on region.  Some models come with 45 some came with 65 depending on graphics.  The ones that were ordered with Nvidia graphics came with 65W.

Thanks Green! That's what I dont know. Just did a quick search and seems that some T480s owners got 45W charger too. So I think you're right...

Right if its got integrated graphics only it came with 45 watt.  If it came with Nvidia and integrated graphics it came with 65 watt charger.

To throw another bit of info, the X1C6 is Intel IGP-only, but also has 45W and 65W chargers. The WQHD displays must get the 65W charger. AFAIK, in some regions, the FHD models come with the 45W charger. Currently in the US, all X1C6 models seem to come with the larger 65W charger.

There is no harm in using a 65W charger on a model that only needs a 45W charger. If anything with 65W the battery will reharge a bit faster.

The converse does not apply. Using a 45W charger with a model that needs 65W may or may not work. It may not power the system at all or it may not be able to recharge the battery while the system is running.

Re: T480s in-the-box power adaptor 45W or 65W?

I have a T480s with core i7 8650U CPU, 16 GB RAM and a touch screen. the graphics card is Intel UHD 620. I got mine through eBay so not sure if the 45W adapter is the originally supplied or I should upgrade to the 65W.

Lately I have the problem of battrey draining while the laptop is plugged in.

I have updated the BIOS, the power management, and Thermal solution driver.

Please find the link for the battery report here

ThinkPad T480s Platform Specifications says "AC adapter: 45W or 65W USB Type-C AC adapter." Since your system has an i7 8650U CPU it's most likely it originally came with a 65W charger.

You can confirm this on Parts Lookup by typing in the serial number. This will display the configuration as originally shipped. I your T480s was originally shipped with a 65W charger then you have an issue with the eBay seller.
