I just got my T490 with the 250-nit screen. I am going to have to return it as the screen is too darn dim.
Now, in comparison, I was previously using (and still have) a T510 15.6" 220-nit 1600x900 panel (https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/pd003320) I use it almost exclusively inside but I almost never bother bumping it up to full brightness.
This machine is supposedly a 250-nit FHD panel, so it should be brighter... but it's not. I have to have this at 100% brightness even as I am typing this in a dimmer room, and it seems definitely less bright than my old "220-nit" panel.
Other than that sad-but-true problem, the machine seems pretty great, TBH. The fan problem has been fixed and it is quiet and fast. It's responsive and the keyboard is great. So far, I have no complaints other than the screen.

I thought about that. But by the time I spec out a custom T490 w/ the 300 nit or 500 nit screen, i'm only $150 from an extreme g2 with my choice of FHD screens (the difference between 300 nit FHD matte and 500 nit dolby FHD matte is only $60 on the Extreme G2, don't know why.) It would be hard not to take that option. (if I drop to the i5 on the Extreme G2, then price is bassically the same, and the i5 chip is basically the same speed at the i7 in the T490. Still, I'll probably spring for the extra 2 cores for $150.)
In any case this is going to have to go back, sad but true.

I don't really know, i have rarely used the laptop all that much because it's frankly too dim to be useful.
Here is an iphone shot (no flash) of the two screens, compared. As you can see from the spec, those T510s were only available w/ 220 nit screens. 250 nits on this new screen? yeah, right.
i might add, that is slightly MORE off-center for the t510, so it is definitely a "fair" picture. The screens are parallel as well.
And yes, that is max brightness for both. I was sure my screen was broken so I spent 45 minutes looking for the "no, really, make it brighter" feature and this is as bright as it gets.
As for the X1 extreme: I'm a lawyer so most of my use is in offices, courts, or other spots where it is possible to plug in. I don't think batt life will be that much of an issue.

Hi ! I would like to buy the T490S but in Italy the FHD low power isn't available yet. Do you know when it will be available ?
I'm undecided between the i5 CPU and the i7 which consumes the least?

I'm thinking to adquire a Lenovo T590 laptop and I have some doubs about the upgradable options that it offers.
I've found this document with the technical specifications of the components, but is not 100% clear:
1) RAM: 2400MHz DDR4, dual-channel capable, one soldered (max 16GB) and one SODIMM socket (max 32GB). Total 48GB.
It says "Installed memory is actually 2666MHz but run at 2400MHz due to Intel limitation". However looking at the spare components in Lenovo page for that model, all memory cards are 2666MHz from different suppliers: Samsung, Hynix, Ramaxel, Micron...
Is it possible to pair a memory in the socket to get dual channel? Someone has tried? Does any particular brand / model guarantee that this works?
2) SSD: M.2 2242/2280 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe with support to 3.0 x 4, 3.0 x 2, and SATA 6.0GB/s. Does anyone know the maximum disk space that can be installed and it is supported by the bios motherboard? Any brand / model recommended or to be avoided?

I'm a noice when it comes to the screen options available today as my last purhcase was an x201 (which I am still using today). What is the perceived risk with the low power option and what is it that you dislike about the top of the line screen option other than resoluation and gloss?
Also for touch screens, is the finish matte? How would one clean the screen as it would be difficult versus a glossy one?
Thanks in advance. Am shopping for a T490 preliminarily.
