Re: T490 & T590 - First Look

BiggAl,

Thank you very much. This is good to know. I will be ordering up a T490, T490s, or T590 shortly to replace my last T480s that is still stuck in 6-bit mode.

There is some hope the Low Power and Privacy screens are actually better than the low end FHD panels the t480 was stuck with. That being said, I'm still holding out for Ice Lake.

Re: T490 & T590 - First Look (review, benchmarks)

Good review

Regarding the MX250, is there any variant as happened in previous MX150 - 1D10 and 1D12? Apparently the previous T480 used the slower 1D12.

T480 was among the fastest MX150 setups out there.

T480s had the slower variant.

T490 MX250 seems to have similar performance to the T480 MX150.

The boost clock rate (from a PassMark 3D run) suggests that this is the 25w version:  NotebookCheck - NVIDIA GeForce MX250

Re: T490 & T590 - First Look (review, benchmarks)

It almost escaped my notice, but the speakers appear to be up-top in this model! Looks like Lenovo is also breaking away from bottom-firing speakers (IMO, those are way too dependant on having a hard, flat surface under the laptop). This is good, IMO.

EDIT: Going off prior PSREFs and the current one, we can probalby expect the two premium 1080p panels to have near 100% sRGB coverage (enough to claim 100%) and a claimed 400 nits max brightness. The two premium panels are the Low Power and Privacy variants. Low Power seems to have a marginally better 800:1 contrast ratio (vs 700:1 on the  base FHD panel) and the Privacy panel has a claimed 1000:1, which seems pretty decent.

Re: T490 & T590 - First Look (review, benchmarks)

Answering a couple of prior questions:  TB3 is 2 lanes; and all displays for T490, T590, and T490s are 8-bit 262k color depth or higher.
