T500 8GB doesn't work

Hi There, Own a T500 and in order to get more power of 64 bit computing with VMware server, decided to add more Ram - 2x 4GB corsair (CM3X8GSDKIT1066G) However the notebook just beeps 7-8x without LCD and then seems to spin up (HD + CD Rom) but no LCD Tests I did - Both of the 4GB modules work fine ALONE in the bottom RAM slot - so I know the RAM modules are ok Both Modules do not work alone on the top slot (beeps)- so my thinking was the top RAM slot has an issue but...... My old Ram modules (2x2GB) works fine when I tested at the end, shows up as 4 GB Ram in Bios. Okay I am not a HW specialist but this is bizare for me, I see no pattern and logic leads me no where, Ram modules seem okay and slots also. So why can't I utilise both the modules together.. Any help or technical explanation would be greatly appreciated, have till the end of the week only to return the RAM modules if they are at fault.. Thanks in advance -Jeen

Re: T500 8GB doesn't work

You might want to check the spec sheets--it's possible that your system only supports a max of 4GB ram.

Re: T500 8GB doesn't work

The T500 sales page @ Lenovo.com lists 8G as a (very expensive) option.

Re: T500 8GB doesn't work

Okay sounds like the specs aren't the issue.

How about trying this combination:  one of the new 4GB sticks in the bottom slot (the one that worked with either 4GB modules on their own) plus one of the old 2GB sticks in the top slot (the one that only seems to work with the 2GB sticks).  I'd be curious to hear if this works or not.

Re: T500 8GB doesn't work

Hello Everyone, Thanks for your responses; - The T500 does support 8GB - Put the the new 4GB module in the bottom and the old 2 GB chip at the top; NB started up, went into bios and can see 6gb!! Cool, for no logical reason, shut the NB down and put the other 4 gb chip in again into the top slot and same result. Then thought screw this, put the 2gb back on top so totaling and 6gb again and wanted to install the OS..but the NB doesn't start up at all now.... No beeps and no lcd, HD and cd-rom all spin up. Then put my old 2x 2GB chips is (so starting position) and still same problem the NB is dead, no lcd, no beeps, just HD and CD rom spin up. Opened a case and will the take the NB to a repair center.... This really bites!!! I do know how to replace RAM, any guesses on what could have happened, checked corsair again and my RAM is correct accordint to the specs. Could the new RAM have "defected" my slots on the NB somehow, been googling and saw on some RAM blogs that they talk about volage of RAMs, now that I haven't checked or dealt with at all. I just verified my new RAM is DDR3 1066Mhz . Thanks for your help anyway people! -Jeen

Re: T500 8GB doesn't work

Hey Everyone, Okay got my T500 back with system board replaced AND a statement from Corsair that the RAM should work. Now, none of the modules work, even alone. So sending the modules to corsair for replacement. Will take it from there. Thanks.

Re: T500 8GB doesn't work

Hello!

Could you solve the problem? i am experiencing the same issue - my laptop would not boot with the new Corsair Memory, so I am thinking if I should exchange it or it is generally incompatible..!?

Thank you!

Re: T500 8GB doesn't work

[ Edited ]

8GB is compatible with T500:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-55644

If your BIOS is current and the memory still doesn't work, then there is something wrong with Corsair RAM considering the OP also had issues with it. I would suggest going with another brand like Crucial, Kingston etc.

If you need help with RAM installation, you can view the KB or support page for T500's videos.

Hope this helps.

Re: T500 8GB doesn't work

Had the same problem with  Corsair (4x4) in my T400. Had to return it. Instead, I was able to get the Crucial memory modules. It was a few $$ more, however, it worked.
