Hi there!
I have a problem with my T500 (manufactured in May 2009).
When the notebook is powered off (or in sleep mode or hibernated & powered off) the battery charge is leaking.
For example - when fully charged at the morning, notebook staing untouched in powered off state, the next morning battery charge is not 100% but only 30-35%. So at the end of the day (approximately after 40-45 hours after initial charge) the battery is totally drained, notebook is not powering on because of low battery state.
When in normal working mode (powered on) battery life is normal, from 2,5 to 4 hours of working life which depends on system load.
Does anybody knows that problem or have any comments on it?
Thanks!!!
Excuse me for my English if it isn`t perfect (that`s not my native language, sorry![]()

Well, of course I`m talking about the situation when the notebook is in real "power off" mode.
No matter how I doing it - from the start menu or whatever
Hibernating mode is much longer to shut down than power off and sleeping mode is always indicated by led, as usual. Windows always starting normally after power off, within 30-40 seconds or a bit more (I have Windows 7 on my T500). So the problem is still persist when my T500 is fully powered off after normal Windows shut down. More of that - when I manually detached battery from my laptop battery next day was 99%, not 30% as in case when connected with notebook.

And... my old but heavy duty
HP 9105 (5yrs old) is doing well in hibernate mode. Battery is leaking something like 1% a day in power off or hibernate mode...

Hi and welcome to the forum!I think your T500 isn't shutting down properly and perhaps going to sleep or hibernation mode regardless of what the LED status is displaying. Has this been happening recently or since you switched to Win 7? and is it 64-bit version of Win 7? See if this applies to your system:- http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-74107 Also take a look at these:- Google search 1 Google search 2I would also suggest to make sure that your BIOS and power management related drivers are most recent.

Another thing to try is to find "wake on Lan" settings and disable this feature - could be causing this as some part of the board is on and watching the lan function even when the system is off.
I think you have already covered this, but be sure that BIOS and drivers are all latest level.
Keep us posted!

Which OS do you have installed? There was an issue with a Microsoft Sound driver and Vista causing problems. The fix for Vista can be found here.

My W510 with Win7 is doing the same thing! I shut down my laptop on Sunday and put it in a drawer until the next Saturday morning and find the battery down to like 68 or 70%. A loss of 30% power leaked and gone. Wake on LAN is off! Been thru the bios and device manager to make sure all is off. AND I DO know how to turn my W510 off!
What is a real kicker is that this is my second W510. My first W510, exact same model, only lost maybe 1-2% over the same period so there has to be something going on with the hardware. I do not think it is software related as I removed the 256GB SSD from my first W510 and installed it into my 2nd W510, so we are dealing with the same hardware in both.
Any more suggestions as to where my 30% power is going.

Hi Mark,
Ik have the same problem with my T500. (Windows 7 x64). Totally turned off and stil the battery drains.
What i did notice is that when is off it still makes a high frequency noise when i put my ear at the bottom of my T500.
What i did was pull the battery out. Noise gone (it had to right, no power no noise) But when i plugged the battery in again. Still no noise. But better yet................. No battery drain!!!
My conclusion is that when windows 7 shuts down. Something is still powered on even when no led on my T500 indicate that something is on. Could it be a faulty driver for the WWAN?
Workaround is for the time being. Turn off windows. Pull out the battery and AC power. Plug battery in again en no drain at all.
