T500 WWAN?

Hi folks,

I have a Thinkpad T500 (2081-CTO) with the internal AT&T WWAN adapter. The first thing I did when I got it was wipe the drive and install Windows 7. Now I am wishing I had paid a little more attention to the WWAN options. I seem to remember there was an offer to get a 30-day free trial period activation of the WWAN SIM that came installed in my computer. Does anybody know how I might do that or will I need to reload the system from my backup media? Also if somebody could give me a crash course as to how the WWAN connection works in general I'd appreciate it -- I've never used one before. How do I activate it and once I do does it just show up as another network connection (like a LAN port) or something? I'm having a remarkably difficult time finding documentation about this.

Thanks again!

Re: T500 WWAN?

It's stranger. I have a Thinkpad T500 (2081-CTO) too, but withOUT the internal AT&T WWAN adapter. My T500 have "Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable".

Are you sure that your T500 have a Ericsson 3G? You can check it in the devices properties

Re: T500 WWAN?

yes, I am certain I have it. I ordered it that way and I can see/remove the SIM card under the battery.

Re: T500 WWAN?

If you order your T500 with these settings then you should have it. In my case, removing the battery can also see the hole to insert the SIM card, even brought me a plastic card inserted (not a valid SIM card). When disarmed my T500 I could see that it brings the antennas and the place prepared for inserting the module (Also know at: "Integrated Mobile Broadband upgradable").

Hi commie64,

The WWAN connection shows up as a dial-up. Here are the AT&T instructions on how to set it up manually in Windows 7. You can also use the WWAN card manufacturer's utility, AT&T Connection Manager, or Lenovo ThinkVantage Access Connections. Everybody wants a piece of your WWAN card!

Your factory software install probably included a small application to activate the SIM card and start the 30-day trial (have a backup?). You may be able get AT&T to honor the trial without the application. Start on their Lenovo page here.

I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!
