My new T500 with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 display adapter running Vista Ultimate on startup often (but not always) shows the message (with a choice window) "New Display Detected" even though no display (other than the notebook screen is present. Windows Display Settings shows 4 diplays-- 2 for the internal Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset and two for the Radeon. I am guessing that there might be some power savings in using the Intel "Monitor", but trying to activate any but one of Radeon monitors never "sticks" (i.e., it always reverts to #3, the Radeon monitor at high resolution). PC Doctor diagnostic shows no errors.
This is more of an annoyance than anything, since the video seems to work fine. But I don't know if it indicates something is messed up in the system that should be fixed.
