T510 : Both TrackPoint and TouchPad not working.

T510: I had to fix the Yellow DC-Input which fell into the laptop. I removed the KB and KB bezel where the TouchPad sits. I did this using the Hardware Maintenance PDF from Lenovo. Now both the UltraNav pointer and pad do not work and are not recognized in device manger. The only way to get around is via a Microsoft USB Mouse. I am using the latest BIOS. I have tried disabling and rebooting, returning to automatic, uninstalling, taking out the battery and power cable, pressing the power switch for 10 seconds … etc. etc. When I press Fn +F8 it tells me the driver is not installed, but Synaptics 16.2.19.9 is installed …

I checked both cables under magnification to see if they were damaged. I also looked at the sockets. No bent pins on any of the 4 parts.

BTW: I have another T510 in the lab, also running Win 7 Pro 64bit. It works fine. I can connect or disconnect the MS USB mice … nothing prevents Fn +F8 from working and both the pointer and pad work.

I have searched the forum and the internet, nothing seems to work.

Any ideas?

Did you follow the instructions from the HMM? Page 50 of the file (not of your pdf reader!)

If you are refering to the Lenovo ThinVantage toobox test in Windows 7, Ver. 6.0.5849.23, Yes,

but the only Mouse that shows up is the MS USB Mouse. That works fine.

Re: T510 : Both TrackPoint and TouchPad not working.

It is possible that you damaged the cable during the touchpad removal, but it is probably more likely that it isn't in straight. There are little tabs on the receptacle It is also possible that the cable connecter isn't snapped down completely.

I do not respond to requests for private, one-on-one help. Your questions should be posted in the appropriate forum where they may help others as well.

What about testing with a Linux distro? Then you'll know if it's more likely to be a hardware issue

Re: T510 : Both TrackPoint and TouchPad not working.

Thanks RichK ( Guru!)

While I noticed the clips I did not look at them carefully after I got the cable in since from the top it seems tight.

So upon your suggestion I took a 7X magnifying glass to it from the side. I saw the left side had a little white tab but the right did not. I pressed down on the right side, closed it up, replaced battery and electric ... and bingo it worked.

Fn + F8 works and there is now an UltraNav tab in the terminal as well.

Thanks alot.
