All,
If you are experiencing issues on the T410 / T510 models, we now have a fix available through service. With regard to any similar sounding symptoms on T420 / T520 we will have to look into those - they are not included in this fix.
Please let me be clear that you should only contact service about this if you are actually experiencing the symptom and you can eliminate the sound by either temporarily disabling the CPU speed step function or the USB hub. (there were two different sounds)
Refer to this KB for steps to disable CPU speed step function or USB hub.
Please also note that not all systems are affected, nor will all customers notice it. If you do, please contact service.
I'm marking this as the official solution since this thread is huge. I expect there will continue to be further comments posted here.
Thanks
Mark
edit note:- Added KB link into post.

When you say contact service you mean call tech support? In order to get it fixed would I have to send my laptop or could i do it myself?
Thanks

There1,
Yes - thanks. I mean call support, go through problem determination and they should find a tip that explains the issue and they should be able to set up service. If you have depot warranty, you would send in, and unfortunately this is not something you can do yourself under warranty. It's a bummer, I know. Sorry. ![]()
Best regards,
Mark

chl,
I was looking at your specs. You have a Blu-Ray player/burner on your T520?

He probably stuck in an aftermarket drive. The drives are standard laptop SATA optical drives, only the bezel will not match up unless you modify it.

Hi:
I bought the drive off Ebay. It's a Panasonic UJ141. Supposedly, it's a 6X Speed. The Lenovo has a rear and side bracket that I removed and installed on the Blu-Ray drive. I also removed the tray bezel and mounted it onto the Blu-Ray drive. The total operation took about 10 minutes. I found a small faq on the procedure here.
Since Windows 7 does not have a bluray capable software, I had to buy one. I use Corel WinDVD 2010 Pro. I use Power DVD on my desktop. Wish I went that route, since it's just easier to use and less "buggy" than WinDVD2010 Pro.

So has anyone had this fix done and can confirm it works? Is this able to be done on-site?
