T520 Random Restart

Hello all,

The problem I'm having is that occasionally (and without warning) my T520 will fully power off and restart. No bluescreen, no error, nothing in the event log.

I'm really at a loss as to what is going on on here Smiley Sad

Thanks for the help,

Jordan

Re: T520 Random Restart

Hello  Jordan,

I would suggest you to please uncheck the automatic restart, and then update the Bios of your notebook from the below mentioned web link.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/product-and-parts/default.page?

After this, please restart the notebook and check if the issue resolved.

Regards,

Sameer

Re: T520 Random Restart

Hello,

Which automatic restart are you referring to Sameer?

Thank you,

Anthony

Link to picture

START- Right click on COMPUTER- PROPERTIES - ADVANCED SYSTEMS SETTING.

Uncheck Automatic Restart under system failure.

Re: T520 Random Restart

Turning that off allows you to dig for the cause as long as it still running. This is not a fix for the underlying cause you should be aware. Once the BIOS is updated (assuming its not) you may have to look at the critical events in the event view log.

Re: T520 Random Restart

My laptop (also a T520) has started having the same issue. Starting a couple months ago, blue screens began popping up with a USB bugcode, so I disabled all my USB ports (there was an unknown USB device listed, but nothing was plugged in). I don't use external mice/keyboards, so it hasn't been an issue yet.

BUT, ever since I stopped the blue screens, I've been getting the occasional power off and restart. I checked my system settings and "automatically restart" was already unselected. It's happened only two or three times - so far.

The laptop is around 2.5 years old. Pretty sure the fan has gone kaput or is running extremely weakly.
