T530 - Fan Replacement for silent operation - Differences in noise (db)

2016-08-16, 16:16 PM

Dear Lenovo, Users,

I have a T530 with integrated Intel GPU (2392APU) and the fan needs to be replaced.

I found the following replacements:

- 04W6904 FRU FAN Integrated Furukawa FANS

- 04W6906 FRU FAN Integrated AVC EQUIVALENT

- 04W6905 FRU FAN Integrated Delta EQUIVALENT

Here are my questions:

a) Do they differ in regards of noise / dbs. Which has the less noise?

b) Can I use a heatpipe for the NVIDIA T530 versions as well, and does this has any benefits in regards of noise?

c) Can I replace just the fan itself, what is the partnumber / spec (e.g. diameters, mounting points, etc.) to find a after-market hardware solution (silent 3rd party fan) for the fan only.

Thanks a lot,

Martin

I have never seen noise ratings published and I have never noticed a difference between brands.  There is no benefit to using an nVIDIA fan.  There is no GPU for the heatsink to sit on and no place to attach that leg.  I would expect more vibration and more noise.  I don't have a T530 to look at, but you may find that the connectors are different (nVIDIA vs. integrated).  Often, they use different connectors in the fan and motherboard (4-pin vs. 5-pin) even though only 3 pins are actually used.  (power, ground, tach pulse).  This is done so you won't use the wrong fan.  If you use an integrated fan on a discreet board, you will cook the GPU.

I have replaced only the fan on other models, but the fan is taped to the body with a very thin foil tape.  It is difficult to get it to seal well and lie flat.  If you want to do that, you need to measure the fan and look at the connector closely.  You need to have the same number of wires, the same sized connector and the same orientation of the wires.  I suggest just buying a whole assembly

Hi richk,

thank you.

About the nvidia heatsink, it might be good, because it has a bigger heatsink, so better passive cooling. But you are right, there might be vibrations.

Do you have any ratings/specs (manufacturer, product id, rpms, amperes, ...) for the stock heatpipe + fan solutions:

- 04W6904 FRU FAN Integrated Furukawa FANS

- 04W6906 FRU FAN Integrated AVC EQUIVALENT

- 04W6905 FRU FAN Integrated Delta EQUIVALENT

Thanks a lot.

I have no more. Sorry. I suggest you make sure the plugs are the same width before trying a discreet video fan
