T530 LAPTOP Loose Battery

Hi Everyone,

I have expected much about LENOVO Products and very much disappointed about the Service and the Quality of the Product that I have received by paying a LOT.

The new 2359 CTO - T530 Thinkpad delivered after 15 days, has a very LOOSE BATTERY which is ready to fall from the machine at any time.

Is this the common problem with LENOVO Laptops (or atleast for T530's)?

Please share your views if anyone is facing similar problem.

Thanks,

Rakesh Tummala.

Re: T530 LAPTOP Loose Battery

Well on mine it move about, left right and in out a fair bit. The latch locking mechanism is all that keeping it in. Yeah thats all relative but they're not snug as in the old Thinkpads or other notebooks.

Re: T530 LAPTOP Loose Battery

From what I've read, it seems to be fairly common (if not standard) with the 9cell batteries. One solution that seems to work is using a piece of foam and gluing it between the battery and the frame. This will keep it more snug, but still allow room for battery swelling, etc.

Re: T530 LAPTOP Loose Battery

I also have a loose battery in my new T530.  I can move it a little in every direction and it rattles when I pick up the laptop. (It's a 6-cell, not a 9-cell.)

I am even more concerned about my latch, which is loose as well. It does not really lock or go all the way to the left, but rests very loosely in the center of the slot after springing back from the unlock position on the right. I expected to be able to slide it to the left and have it click or catch somehow, but it is a very flimsy tab that feels like it it could snap off quite easily.

I would like to know if other people are able to actually lock the battery latch so that it stays firmly in place on the left.  I feel like my battery could easily come out with a slight compression of the spring as it does not even have to be pushed all the way to the right before it is released. I never had a laptop before where I could easily remove the battery with one hand. That does not seem right.

Edit:  Looking at the battery outside of the laptop, I still can't lock it by sliding the tab, but if I press down hard and hold it, I can get it so that the levers don't move if try to pull them.  So now I know it is supposed to actually lock, but I don't know if the battery would still be loose since it moves up and down as well as sideways. I will call Lenovo to see about a replacement battery.

Re: T530 LAPTOP Loose Battery

Mine stop past center but is also loose and is not pushed all the way in the closed direction. Sloppy engineering in the latch.
My battery is a 9 cell but has nothing to do with the fit since its exactly the same otherwise.

My 6 cell battery ratlles when I pick up the machine. I wouldn't have expected this in a business class laptop.

Re: T530 LAPTOP Loose Battery

Same with T430 and T420... see this thread for some solutions (that also partially fix the loose lock mechanism):

Re: T530 LAPTOP Loose Battery

I have a T530 on order and I am very concerned about this issue. I don't like the idea of spending a $1000 for a faulty machine. So, I am wondering, if when I finally get my T530 can I return it for a full refund if I find that I have the loose battery issue? If not what options are available other than jury rigging the battery?

Re: T530 LAPTOP Loose Battery

For those who don't have problem with the lock mechanism - and the rattling is basically caused by the smaller battery size

( assuming if it was bigger it would be more tight ) - there is a simple fix they can try safely :

you can put one drop (or more ) of some epoxic glue on either of the two rattling surfaces,

in more than one spots if you think : the glue hardens like a plastic and has a dark grey color, barely noticeable.

After the two surfaces have come closer the rattling should stop. The glue is very durable.

One should have in mind though it must be applied on the right spots.

Re: T530 LAPTOP Loose Battery

I used Blu-Tack on the top corners of the display and behind the battery to keep things tight and add some cushion. Does anyone know if this will cause problems? For the display, I see no reason why, but I'm hesitant about keeping this close to the battery because I don't know how Blu-Tack handles heat.
