T530: cannot install Dolby Advanced Audio v2

2012-11-01, 21:05 PM

I'm so confused.  I did the ThinkVantage Driver Update for my T530 and said OK to a recommended audio driver update.  After that  I would always get this message on startup:

"Current Dolby audio driver 7.2.8000.14, software expects 7.2.7000.7.  Please install a valid software application combination"

After reading various forum posts, I uninstalled Dolby Advanced Audio (which no longer shows on Control Panel->Programs/Features).  When I try to reinstall Dolby (from C:->SWTOOLS->DRIVERS->AUDIO->PCEE->DolbyAdvancedAudio, then right-click->"install") I get this message:

"There is another PCEE product installed already.  Please uninstall it before installing this product. Setup will now exit."

I tried to roll back the Realtek driver (and maybe I did.)  I've uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek High Def Audio driver (6.0.1.6710, which appears to be the most current) but I cannot get Dolby Advanced Audio to reinstall.  The volume is much reduced from before, and the audio quality seems worse.

Can anyone tell me what I've done and how to fix it?

T530: cannot install Dolby Advanced Audio v2

2012-11-23, 19:31 PM

Can anyone help me?  (See above)

Multiple attempts to install Dolby Advanced Audio v2 (or DHTv4, per the other thread) have failed, even after uninstalling the Realtek drivers.  Is there some PCEE product that I'm missing?

(Not comfortable messing with the registry, but also tried that and couldn't find anything Dolby or Realtek there.  Maybe there's some audio driver from Microsoft or Intel that also needs to be removed?)

I'd surely love to get back the audio volume and quality that came with this ThinkPad.

I'm having this exact issue on a custom-spec T530, did you ever find a workable solution to the conflict?  Thanks!

No solution (yet.)  I somehow managed to get back Realtek audio, which is better than before but not as good as the Dolby Advanced Audio v2 that came on the machine.

I have the .mis files (Windows Installer Package) for Dolby Adv Audio v2, Dolby Home Theater v4, and Realtek 6.0.1.6710 under C:->SWTOOLS->Drivers->Audio->PCEE4

Even after uninstalling all the audio drivers I can see, I still get the error message as described above:

"There is another PCEE product installed already.  Please uninstall it before installing this product. Setup will now exit."

I hesitate to try again and risk losing the Realtek sound that I currently have.  As I said, it's not nearly as good as the original DolbyAdvancedAudiov2 that came on the computer, but it's way better than what I had after losing the Dolby.

Too bad it won't work on the T520. The audio system is not even good for Viop. I have used Skype and number of times. Video is ok but the audio is poor to very bad. Volume is never as loud as it could be and voice quality is very poor and tinny with a lot of back hiss and noise that appears during quiet section of the call. I have tried every setting in Skype. I can make it worst but never better.

My old HP Pavilion offers a far far suppior experience with the same caller (which is on the same computer, Thinkpad Edge). I would be horrible for a business applicaton. These two mic's don't appear to offer any advantage from my experience.

Re: T530: cannot install Dolby Advanced Audio v2

As I recall the orginal sound (Dolby Advanced Audio v2) that came with my T530 (Sept 2012) was pretty good, but what do I know?  This is my first laptop.  Unfortunately I took that sound for granted and didn't appreciate how good it was until it was gone.

After performing the Lenovo-recommended audio driver update, the sound was horrible.  Horrible!  Low-volume, indistinct, and very tinny.

Many hours of Internet research and fiddling got me to the Realtek Hi Def Audio, which is the only thing showing under "Programs & Features" that looks like audio drivers.  Under Computer Management->Device Manager->Sound I find only Realtek Hi Def Audio and Intel Display.  If I uninstall both of those and try to install either of the Dolby files (via the .mis Windows Installer) the error message tells me a PCEE driver is already installed.

Surely someone on this board can explain this and provide a solution.

Sarbin-  This problem isn't solved, could you relabel this thread appropriately?

Thank you for calling this to my attention.

I left the original poster's thread standing as solved. The follow-on posts, currently without solution, are all now in this new thread. Please continue the discussion here.

Re: T530: cannot install Dolby Advanced Audio v2

I'm inclined to not mess with this anymore, until I get some answers, fearing that I'll lose (again) the Realtek Advance Audio I currently have.  Even though it's clearly not as good (quality or volume) as the Dolby Advanced Audio v2 that came on the machine.

I've read somewhere about some 'hidden' audio drivers that don't get uninstalled when you go to Programs--> Uninstall and remove Realtek.  Now I can't locate that information, or where I found it.

Not to repeat too much information from the previous posts, but what must I uninstall or remove to be able to install the Dolby Advanced Audio v2 ?

I feel like there should be at least a rollback solution to this issue as the original problem was pushed out by Lenovo.  Something really needs to be done.
