Trying to connect laptop to television using display port to HDMI. I hear audio (through my receiver) but there is no video. Do I have to change the display settings on the laptop to recognize the connection to the TV? Thank you.

How did you connect your DP to HDMI? Are you using a DP to HDMI adapater and a HDMI cable or a DP to HDMI cable?
Your issue may be related to your cable.

I am connecting using an Display Port to HDMI adapter (then the HDMI cable connects to the adapter). I am thinking the problem is that I need a separate VGA to component adapter for video to the TV. My TV only has component cables capability so the HDMI is only carrying the audio through my receiver. Can I use both a VGA to component adapter and the Display Por to HDMI adapter at the same time? If so, once I connect the VGA adapter, do I need to change display setitngs on my laptop or no? Thank you.

I have a mini displayport to HDMI adapter ($2.99 off the bay), an HDMI cable ($1.99, same source) going into a 18 month old Samsung 6500 series TV and it works fine on my T430 (Ein 7 Pro 64). Could be any of the components including the software setup on the computer. If your TV has an HDMI input, it should support video. Usually you can only select one input (either HDMI or VGA).

The T530 with NVIDIA Optimus support triple display. You can connect a monitor to VGA, one to DP, and the ThinkPad screen.
The settings would be in the mobility centre.
