T530 reinstalling Windows missing drivers

2019-06-17, 19:10 PM

Hi,

Recently my copy of Windows became corrupted. I bought this computer used, and it didn't come with any Windows CD. Just put up with not having access to Windows and used only Linux (I dual boot) for a while, got a system recovery toolkit from computerrepairathome.com and that didn't help, so then I just purchased a copy of Windows 7 Professional and did a fresh install. Little did I know that the drivers for several hardware items, including the drivers for both wireless and wired Internet devices, were missing. What do I do? Will I be okay if I download drivers from this website (from my working Internet connection here on Linux) and copy them over to my Windows partition, and where should I copy them to? Thanks in advance for help with this!

Jeff

Hello and welcome,

It should be fine to go to SUPPORT (above) and download the Win 7 drivers you need.  They are exe files that launch the actual installers, so it doesn't really matter where you put them.  The installers will default to unpack locations that are appropriate, and the drivers themselves will end up where they belong.

You might find it easiest to first grab the network driver you prefer to use initially - wifi or LAN - and get that installed.  After that you can do the rest from Windows.  I'd suggest grabbing System Update and installing that after getting networking up.  When you run it post-install it should offer drivers appropriate for your machine and do the scut work of downloading and installing.

I’ve had similar situations with no network drivers. I just carry a $10 generic USB  WiFi dongle that every OS supports out of the box. I use it to download the native drivers then just unplug it for the next time I need it.

You need to know what devices are in your notebook to know which drivers to download. eg. what is your Wireless and Wired devices?

If you can install and bootup Linux from a USB drive you can then install and run the Hardinfo app to generate a report of all of your config and devices.

Also, have a search through SevenForums.com for your notebook model as others may have had similar issues, eg... https://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/361184-lenovo-think-pad-t530-win7hp64-network-control-driver-not-found.html
