T570 Isssue with External Monitors Displaying and Ultra Dock 170W

Checking to see if anyone has had this issue. We have 5 T570 20JW, running the most current verison of Windows 10Pro and since Yesterday (9/18/17), whenever a user undocks their laptop and then redocks it the external monitors do not turn back on and Windows does not recognize the 2 displays either. The only way we have been able to get them to show back up is to either reseat one or both of the monitor cables from the dock or put the laptop into sleep mode and then wake it backup using the docking station power button. It's not the displaying drivers causing the issue, at least not directly as we have tried the most current and the last release and neither fix the issue and as I stated this just started on 9/18 and the most current drivers are a few months old now. My only guess is that it's one of the 5 lenovo updates that where installed yesterday or the latest bios update (See the attached picture). I haven't had the chance yet to uninstall each of the 5 updates because I will need to go download the last version of each of them first, but wanted to see if any one else has had this happen and to forwarn anyone that has one to be careful with the most current updates.

Thanks, Joseph

Re: T570 Isssue with External Monitors Displaying and Ultra Dock 170W

Well I've removed or rolled back any of the Lenovo updates that installed on 9/18 and the issue remains. The only one I can't account for is the Bios update 1.24. I guess I'll have to wait for Lenovo to release the next update and see if that corrects the issue.

Is your lid close action set as "do nothing"?

Try this the next time you have the problem:  press Win+Ctrl+Shift+B

Does it make the monitors come on?

They are set to "Do Nothing" on when we close the lid both on power and battery.

I just tested and If you press Win+Ctrl+Shift+B the monitors do come back on.

Re: T570 Isssue with External Monitors Displaying and Ultra Dock 170W

This is a bug in Windows 10 1703.  1607 and previous did not have this bug.  And it is fixed in 1709.  Below is information from Microsoft about their bug.

External monitors are not detected when a portable computer is placed in a dock while the computers lid is closed and the computer is powered on

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:

  • You have external monitors connected to a docking station.
  • The lid closed setting is configured to do nothing.
  • While the system is docked, close the lid.
  • While the lid is still closed, undock system.
  • While the lid is still closed, place the system in the dock.

In this scenario, the external monitor displays a black screen.

Cause

This issue occurs when all the following conditions are true:

  • The computer is running Windows 10 1703 (RS2).
  • The lid closed setting is configured to do nothing.

When these conditions are met, the portable computer does not detect the external monitors, even though they are still plugged into the docking station.

Resolution

  • Use the keyboard shortcut Win+Ctrl+Shift+b
  • Within Display Settings, click the Detect button

Both options will force the external monitors to be redetected.

Re: T570 Isssue with External Monitors Displaying and Ultra Dock 170W

I have the docking station along with the T570.

I have a VGA compatible monitor and and a DVI compatible monitor.

My computer will detect the 2 screens but only display the extended desktop on one of the two monitors..

Can you please help me out.. nothing seems to work. Thank you

Re: T570 Isssue with External Monitors Displaying and Ultra Dock 170W

Hi, Make sure you have updated all drivers, bios, firmware, etc for the laptop, as well as latest version of Windows. Also make sure the dock you are using has the latest firmware installed on it as this has fixed all of our issues with or T570 model laptops. Assuming it's a Lonovo Dockstation, Lenovo has a site that houses all the dockstations firmware updates. If you are using a 3rd party dock, then you may be out of luck as we haven't had much luck with making them work if they have a VGA port, as most laptops do not come with VGA ports built in anymore.

Where do I go to update the driver. The VGA port works well. Do you know where that link is??

This is what I purchased.
