Brand new T580, second battery at 45%, and does not charge (tried to disable built-in batteries in BIOS and then rebooting, didn't help). Also tried resetting via Windows 10 , got error.
Any idea? Using latest Windows and Lenovo drivers.

When you click microsoft battery icon on the task bar does it show both batteries?
If you look in Device Manager are both batteries listed?
The windows 10 - 1803 update screwed up a lot of Thinkpads with two batteries.
So, if the answer to the above question(s) is NO try this:
The same thing happened to me on my T480
Here is how I fixed it:
I may have some extra unnecessary steps in here, but I wanted to be sure I didn't screw it up:

We shouldn't have had to go through this exercise, but I'm glad it worked for you!

This solved my problem as well, thanks very much.
I have a Lenovo T580, BIOS 1.20, Windows 10 Pro 1809. Battery 1 (built-in) was charging OK. Battery 2, the removable one on the underside of the unit, was not charging. Battery 2 said "19% and not charging". Hovering over the power icon in the system tray gave a message "plugged in and not charging". The above steps solved this.

WOW! That's quite a process!
Question: does it just show that my battery is 53% charged (in my case) or is it actually only 53% charged?
Will I be able to use my laptop on battery for longer period if I go through your detailed (scarry) process; or is it just "aesthetical" and I'll have the satisfaction to see 100% instead of 53%?
