Re: TRIM firmware for the 128 GB Samsung SSD??

Hi, it's been a long time since I thought about this... I have this file on my hard drive "SamsungSSD_FWupd2TRIM.rar" which I believe contains the maindiag.exe and also the firmware. Again it's been a while. I have uploaded it to this location so you can grab it.

Re: TRIM firmware for the 128 GB Samsung SSD??

First problem...

In the procedure described above in the thread, it is said that one has to :

- in the BIOS change SATA mode from AHCI to Compatibilty

- boot on the USB drive

- run maindiag.exe : the SSD model/serial/version should be listed

- shutdown

- unplug the SSD

- boot on the USB drive

- hot plug the SSG

- run maindiag.exe : the SSD model/serial/version should appear as blank

- flash the firmware (step 2,1,4)

I followed the procedure, but when I run maindiag for the second time the SSD model/serial/version are still listed... Should I instead hot plug the SSD *after* maindiag.exe is ran ?

Re: TRIM firmware for the 128 GB Samsung SSD??

You're supposed to 'hot-plug' the SSD upon rebooting and getting to the DOS prompt. model/serial/firmware should be blank this time upon running Maindiag. It's been a long time so my memory is not great

Yes, that's what I read too, but I never turns like that. Even if I plug the SSD after the boot, maindiag still fully identifies it.

Re: TRIM firmware for the 128 GB Samsung SSD??

I have reached the conclusion that flashing the SSD firmware with maindiag.exe is not possible on the X301. The mainboard probably behaves differently compared to other models, and the SSD is always fully identified whatever I do. I give up on this...

Have anyone succeded with  MMDPE56G8DXP-0VBL7  VBM8LL1Q (Samsung PM800 SSD 1.8")?

Have I any chance to cure these cursed SSDs?

Re: TRIM firmware for the 128 GB Samsung SSD??

@StasFomin

A bit late, but anyway...

Enabling the TRIM on these SSDs looks very tricky and is even not possible on some Thinkpad models. As I said before I gave up... I recommend instead :
- secure erase the SSD by using the BIOS menu (requires flashing the BIOS to enable this feature) : this will tell the controler to erase all the cells
- Create a 200GB partition and leave 56GB unpartionned to be used as overprovisionning

By doing so the garbage collection process has much more room to be efficient, even without TRIM.
