ThinkPad E580/T480 - Question regarding SSDs

2018-09-20, 13:43 PM

I'm planning on getting a E580 or a T480, but I already have a 1TB M.2 SATA SSD I would like to add to the computer as additional storage. My question is regarding compatability, if either of the mentioned devices supports a stock SSD in combination with an add-in M.2 SATA SSD.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Community

T480 doesn't support two drives configuration in case the SSD isn't m.2 PCIe 2242 type.

E580 supports up to two drives, HDD and m.2 SSD, but the SSD should be PCIe NVME type. So, the way to use m.2 SATA SSD is to get 3rd party m.2 SSD to 2.5in SATA adapter (converter)

Just install m.2 PCIe 2280 SSD into free slot

Don't forget to disable internal battery pack.

I don't mean to revive an old thread, but if I ordered the laptop with the M2 SSD as my primary hdd, can I add a second SSD to the sata slot? The links provided here did not work.
