I"m using a T480 with Windows Hello / face recognition, but it works very unreliable.
And I am not referring to the quality of recognition, but the operation itself.
After a reboot, I can see the IR LEDs blinking, so I know the camera is in operation and it works perfectly.
after a while (Don't know what exactly is needed to reproduce, perhaps some sleep/hibernate cycles), the IR LEDs and the camera are simply not activated on the sign in screen. Fingerprint Auth works, however, there were some cases when fingerprint also refused to work in such cases.
Inside windows, I have seen several times the Window Camera Frame server taking too much CPU and I thought it might be related, so I disabled this service. It did not change anything - Face recognition still worked for some time, and then it stopped again.
I suspect this could be some driver issue.
Anyone else facing such problems? Any ideas, hints?

The IR camera on my T480 has been rock solid. It is super quick and reliable and prefer it over the fingerprint reader, but my fingerprint reader works very well also as long as my finger is not too off center. There was a time the IR camera struggled when there was a strong light source behind me shining toward the camera. Otherwise it works very reliably.
If yours is performing unreliably at random, I'd definitely ask for an exchange (assuming you've already updated to all the latest drivers via lenovovantage).

Hi and thanks for the response.
This is not a hardware, but a software issue.
It IS rock stable indeed, when it comes to recognition, and when I see that it operates.
My problem is that the camera is not being turned on.
Anyone else facing this issue?
How could I potentially troubleshoot this?
I do not feel like replacing the entire notebook...

Very strange indeed. Something is preventing the camera from turning on at all. Did you try checking if there are any issues in device manager? In device manager here is my camera info:
My integrated camera is made by Sunplus and driver is 22.214.171.124
My IR Camera is made by Realtek and driver is 10.0.16299.20033

Hm, there are absolutely no issues in device manager.
My versions are:
Integrated, Realtek - 10.0.17134.20043
IR, sunplus IT - 126.96.36.199
So basically newer drivers than yours..

Quite interesting. Did you get your drivers straight from the website or through the lenovo vantage app? Perhaps you can try rolling back to the drivers I have and see if it changes anything.
