ThinkPad T500 won't start ...

Hi everyone.

I am using this forum as i have no other options left, in fixing a Lenovo ThinkPad T500.

The first time, with both battery and power plug connected, or just battery / power connected, when the pw button was pressed, nothing happened (no video, no audio signals, no fan, no hdd, no status leds).

So, i disassembled the laptop, removed all it's components (memory module, keyboard, trackpoint, fingerprint reader, hdd, cd/dvd drive, lcd, wireless, internal modem, cpu, cmos battery).

After a reassembly of the laptop, at power on, status leds are like in the picture below, the cpu fan is running for a couple of seconds, and the hdd is running without the hdd status led flickering, but there is no image on lcd and no audio signals. I tried to power on the laptop with battery and power, just battery and/or just power. In the picture below, there are only the necessary components connected: cpu, memory module, lcd, speakers, keyboard, trackpoint, and also hdd and cv/dvd drive. I also connected a external monitor, but there was no video signal.

Current status of T500

As i have no video and/or audio messages/signals, i can't fully diagnose the laptop. I am hoping that someone have had the same situation, or knows what might be the problem.

I would appreciate any help!

THANKS. Smiley Happy

Re: ThinkPad T500 won't start ...

Try this:

Disconnect the AC, remove the battery.
Press the power button ten times quickly in succession, then hold it for ten seconds.

Re: ThinkPad T500 won't start ...

Are any USB ports broken?

Try removing only the RAM and powering it up. If the motherboard is okay, then it'll make a 1-3-3-1 series of beeps.

Re: ThinkPad T500 won't start ...

Tried that aswell (without memory).

About USB, i really don't know. I can't test the usb ports. Anyway, no devices are connected; i kept it with only standard components connected.

Re: ThinkPad T500 won't start ...

About the memory test: there were no beeps - that is what makes me believe that is a defective MB.

Hi CiprianLazar,

Regarding USBs, check whether their pins aren't bent, check this KB:- http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/R-L-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/ThinkPad-T400-T500-R400-R500-hangs-on-boot-a...

Re: ThinkPad T500 won't start ...

If there was no beeps when you started without ram, your MB is dead.

Re: ThinkPad T500 won't start ...

Hi Maliha,

I've checked the usb ports. They are fine: no pins are bent, so there is no short out, on usb.

Thanks for the link anyway. I've added the info there in the "kb database" ... Smiley Happy))

Re: ThinkPad T500 won't start ...

I got to the same conclusion, but i still have the AC and PowerOn leds lighted, the initial start of the cpu fan, and the hdd running.
I thought that there still is something to do to recover the MB, but not having the video signal and/or the audio signals, i can't see what the problem is ...

Anyway, the only solution i've got left is to change the MB.

And we're back...

Move delayed but still coming
