I recently bought a T440s but the shipment keeps getting delayed and I won't have the laptop I need for my business by the time I need it. When I shop locally in Toronto I can't find any T440s's with the 12GB of RAM and the 500GB SSD that I need.
Can anyone confirm what the expansion options are?
My gut tells me to buy a T440s locally with 4GB of RAM and that means I should be able to buy my own 8GB stick and add it to it. From my understanding there is 4GB permantly installed on the mainboard and any 4GB option I could buy would always have an empty expansion slot.
I have also read that the T440s comes with an empty M.2 slot that I can use to add some extra storgage. I am not familiar with the M.2 slot, can someone please elaborate?
I think if I buy a local 4GB version with a 256GB (which is available here), I can add an 8GB stick and possibly add more storage if I need.
As an FYI, the model I got is also the i7 with the FHD screen.

I can tell you that it does come with 4gb permanently installed and you can add up to another 8gb stick for a total of 12gb. I added 4gb to my T440s a few days ago. It is doable but a complete pain in the rear. Go slow, use a plastic spudger and GO SLOW. I can point you to a link or two that helped me if you want.
204 pin DDR3-1600 SO-DIMM PC3-12800 is what you want. Make sure it is 1.35v. Just my opinion, but 8gb total is probably plenty for this machine unless your needs specifically require more.

No, 4GB memory soldered to systemboard and one SO-DIMM socket (up to 8 Gb stick)
Do it well, worse becomes itself
