Thinkpad T440s internal battery won't charge beyond 80% and external battery won't charge at all

2015-05-11, 17:23 PM

I have a Thinkpad t440s running windows 7. The internal battery won't charge beyond 80% and the removable battery won't charge at all.

I've read other threads here and have tried uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery using device manager but this has not fixed the issue.

Any other ideas?

So it turns out I was using the 45W AC adapter that shipped with the T440s and it appears that this simply doesn't provide enough current to charge an external cell that is totally discharged.

We replaced with a 135W lenovo charger (ADL135NLC3A) which then allowed the external battery to charge.

All is working well currently although I question the wisdom of shipping a charger that is inadequate to charge from flat the battery that ships with the laptop.

Hi Nicktr,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I think the problem you are running into is Power Manager conflicting with the 80% BIOS threshold. So to avoid this, either keeps the Power Manager threshold for both batteries below 80%, or else both batteries above 80%.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Hi Coover,

I am glad to hear that the issue has been resolved after replacing the AC adapter with 135W.

I am sorry for the inconvenience caused to you, can you please send me “Private Message” with system Serial number & MTM (Machine Type Model) number, so that I can confirm which adapter is shipped with your system.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar
