Thinkpad T460 Video Driver Version Fails to Install on Windows 10 Pro x64 1909

Last March I reported problems using video driver on my T460 when it was connected to the Lenovo Ultradock.  I finally solved the problem by using an older driver, version

Well, a week or so ago Lenovo issued a new driver, I was able to install it on a backup T460 I have that was running an older verrsion of Windows 10 Pro x64, version 1903, and it seemed to solve the Ultradock problem.  However, I am unable to install the driver on tis T460, which is running Windowes 10 Pro x64, version 1909.   Each time I try to install the driver I get an error message 85% of the way thorugh the installation stating that my operatong system is not supported.  That is very strange, since if 1903 is supported I would think 1909 is also supported.

Has anyone else seen tis probkem?

Re: Thinkpad T460 Video Driver Version Fails to Install on Windows 10 Pro x64 1909

Assuming your system has the Intel HD Graphics adapter, I would try downloading and installing the latest 1909 compatible driver from Intel, which is Version: (Latest) Date: 1/16/2020.

Intel's driver installer checks to see if you are currently running an OEM (e.g. a Lenovo)  driver, and if so will give you a compatibility error, so to install the latest DCH driver from Intel, you must first switch to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver as detailed below..

Before starting, download the latest Intel DCH driver for your graphics adapter and disconnect any external monitors for the time being.

Intel® Graphics - Windows® 10 DCH Drivers Version: (Latest) Date: 1/16/2020

  • Right-click on Start and select Device Manager

  • Click on "Display Adapters" to expand, and then double-click on your Intel HD Graphics adapter

  • Select the Driver tab -> "Update Driver" -> "Browse my computer for driver software" -> "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer"

  • Select “Microsoft Basic Display Adapter”

  • Click “Next” (note that your screen resolution will likely change when it switches to the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver).

  • Close Device Manager

  • Reboot if prompted

You should now be able to install the latest Intel DCH driver installer successfully.
