Re: Thinkpad T480 M2 2242 SSD

I perused the link posted for the Liteon and it does appear that it comes in both 2242 and 2280 flavors, so perhaps the 2242 was the one ordered.  Definitely let us know how that works out - I'm shelving my T480 for the time being as absolutely require 2 drives and need at a bare minum, 400+ GB storage capacity on the M.2.

Re: Thinkpad T480 M2 2242 SSD

It comes as 2242 with a 2280 adapter. Very bad translation from Chinese but with pictures: http://www.133845.xyz/56814.html

Will report on Friday when I am back at home!

Very interesting. Do let us know how it works out.  There's obviously a lot of interest Smiley Happy

[edit to add] It's a bit concerning that it comes with a heat sink that won't be present in the 2242 form - unless the primary purpose of that is to "stretch" it to 80mm.

Re: Thinkpad T480 M2 2242 SSD

Hi, I got home earlier and just installed the SSD. It does not come with a heat sink, it is just a metal adapter to fill the gap for a 2280 form.

After installing, just go to Disk Management and initialize the disk (no need for changes in Bios or drivers).

I did a benchmark for the factory installed SSD (which is full of data now) and the new SSD to compare, I never do this (so don't ask technical questions Smiley Tongue) but as I wanted to deliver all info:

Samsung 512GB (Factory):

Seq: Read 628 MB/s Write 712 MB/s

4K: Read 42 MB/s Write 78 MB/s

4K-64 Thrd: Read 1570 MB/s Write 858 MB/s

Acc. Time: Read 0,001ms Write 0,051ms

Score: Read 1675 Write 1007 - Total 3544

LiteOn 512GB:

Seq: Read 1006 MB/s Write 884 MB/s

4K: Read 12 MB/s Write 47 MB/s

4K-64 Thrd: Read 705 MB/s Write 636 MB/s

Acc. Time: Read 0,077ms Write 0,074ms

Score: Read 818 Write 772 - Total 1999

Re: Thinkpad T480 M2 2242 SSD

The LiteOn is a 2242 drive in a 2280 case/adapter/heatsing. Once the heatsink is removed it fits the 2242. How it performs (and throttles) without the heatsink is a different matter.

Do you have links to the SSDs you're asking about?

As stated in this thread:  if they're SATA - NO.  If they're PCIe - probably yes.

As stated several times in this thread:  that is a SATA SSD.  It will not work in the WWAN slot of a T480.

Re: Thinkpad T480 M2 2242 SSD

Just placed an order today for a loaded T480. I would have preferred the T480s but no storage provision on the WWAN slot (and max of 24GB RAM) was a non-starter for me.

To those interested in a 2242 NVMe SSD, I just ordered the Toshiba RC100 off newegg.com a few minutes ago. I obviously don't have the laptop or the SSD just yet but I don't expect to have any issues.

I won't get to play with the laptop or SSD for a month or so but hopefully by then, someone else gets one of these SSD's and tries it out. FWIW I ordered the 512GB model.
