I have a T480 laptop with a pro dock docking station and 3 monitors i want to try to get working.
2 of the monitors are working fine via a VGA > DP adapter. The 3rd i bought a USB-C to HDMI adapter, though i cannot get this to work, even with the other two monitors disconnected.
If the laptops undocked and the 3rd monitor is connected to the USB-C port, it works. Has anyone had luck with 3 monitors on this docking station?
I have been considering a display port hub, can we use adapters with these hubs ok or does it only work if the cable is solely DP

I'm trying to do almost the same thing my T580, however I can leave mine docked if I turn off the monitors connected to the dock, the (in my case HDMI port) to my 3rd monitor will turn on. No answer so far on my thread yet.

Hi Crumbs83 and 8675309,
If you want to use 3 monitors, why do you have the Pro dock, which supports 2 monitors? The Ultra dock supports 3 monitors.

Because that is what my employer purchased, I did not have a say in what dock I received. It doesn't change that if the graphics card can drive 3 monitors, there's no reason that using a dock with two monitors should kill the HDMI port.

Thanks for the reply, it was a company purchase as i work from home. I had an ultra dock on my previous one so to try to make use of it i have tried to get it to work. I would of thought the pro dock USB - C port was capable of outputting to a HDMI monitor using a USB - C to HDMI adapter (Lenovo one) but doesnt seem to be the case.
Undocked its fine so its not the adapter / laptop / cable. Firmware upgraded the docking station and drivers but doesnt seem to want to play ball.
I have put a request in for an ultra docking station instead :-)

Dont believe you can run HDMI and DP together, i certainly couldnt get it to work on mine (connecting a 3rd monitor to the laptop directly)

Sorry for late response.
I assume you connected USB-C to HDMI adaptor to the ProDock USB-C connector because system side 2 USB-C ports are used by Pro Dock. I'm sorry display port signal connected to 2 DP ports on ProDock but not connected to the ProDock USB-C connector.
On the other hand, Intel HD Graphics device has 3 display port signals and ThinkPad LCD and 2 external monitors use those 3 dispaly ports signals so that there is no chance to attach 3rd external monitor to your T480 + Pro Dock environment.

you mention "there is no chance to attach 3rd external monitor to your T480 + Pro Dock environment"
How about T480 and Ultra docking station, can I use this docking station with T480 to support 3 monitors?

I'm sorry for confusing you.
I mean Intel Graphics device supports up to 3 display port on one system.
If customer use ThinkPad LCD, there are 2 display ports remaining. It doesn't matter Pro Doc or Ultra Dock, you can attach 2 external monitors only.
If customer disables use of ThinkPad LCD, you can use 3 external monitors.
