Thinkpad T510 Random Bluescreens

2011-04-04, 21:47 PM

Hi all,

I've got a Thinkpad T510 (4313-CTO) that I am having trouble with. It is only about a month old.

What happens is, when I boot into Windows (including Safe Mode) I get a BSOD at varying stages of the bootup, sometimes I can use the machine for 3 or 4 minutes, and sometimes it just BSOD's at the Windows Loading screen.

The fact that it happens at various stages, in normal and safe modes, makes me think that it is a hardware issue. I'm not sure if this series (or any) of Lenovo's machines used the Sandy Bridge lot, but it is possible that it could be the problem.

It doesn't bluescreen in Acronis TrueImage that I loaded from the bootable CD.

Any help that anyone can provide is appreciated.

ShaunSforza, welcome to the forum,

you don't mention which version of Windows you have installed, or if it's a factory or manually installed version of that system. Maybe you could add this information.

Thanks

Andy

Does choosing Last Known Good Configuration instead of Safe Mode work?

EDIT: Hmm. My T400's done a few 7E BSoD's for a while. IIRC, it was potentially related to Intel Rapid Storage Drivers, but never pinpointed the exact cause.

Do you by any chance have True Image installed on this computer? I had a case where installing True Image gave me the same problem. Uninstalling True Image solved the problem. I eventually ended up reinstalling Windows and then True Image and the problem didn't occur again. So probably some software i installed that caused a conflict with some of the drivers installed by TI. I never really figured out the exact problem that caused the bluescreen though.

I bet this is related to some software or driver you installed. When did this problem start and do you remeber if you installed anything at that point (software, drivers, updates and so on)? Also like Andy pointed out it would be useful to know what version of Windows and servicepack level you use as well if this is a factory install or a clean install.

Hi Guy's,

Thanks for the replies, The machine is running Factory preinstalled Windows 7 Business x86 (32bit) with No service packs.

I have only installed Office 2007 and Adobe Master Collection CS5, I only use an external mouse, no other devices. The problem started last night while the computer was sitting idle, I believe it is a hardware issue.

Acronis is not installed, I run it off a boot CD.

This also happened to my last T510 which I bought from an online retailer and returned due to this issue, though I'd like to solve it this time :)

Do you have any files in C:\Windows\Minidump?

I'd imagine so, however, I have no way of getting to them, due to the bluescreen problem.

Do you have a bootable Windows retail disc?

This may work:
