Thinkpad t450s gets heat

2016-08-06, 20:09 PM

Hi all,

I want to know if the same issue happens to you. Well my thinkpad t450s becomes hot while it's connected to AC adapter.

The laptop still new, and I've been strugled with this problem for awhile, the laptop becomes very hot prevents me to hold it.

I don't know is this normal, if not what you suggest me to do?

Thank you

It should not be too hot to hold.  Download TPFanControl and check temperatures.  You can call for service if you are under warranty.

Thanks richk.
My laptop is still under warranty, and I'm afraid to download TPFanControl to spoil the warranty!

TPFanControl adjusts fan speed so it could, in theory, make matters worse. But there's no risk if you just install and run it with default settings. Nevertheless ThinkPads will shut themselves down if temperatures rise to a dangerous level so the risk is minimal even if you do experiment with TPFC settings.

If you just want to view temperatures within the T450s, download and install the free version of Speccy. It's from the same people as CCleaner so it's reliable. It also displays lots of other useful information about your system. Then post the CPU and motherboard temperatures from Speccy's summary page.

It is, especially if you're not doing any CPU or graphics-intensive work.

You should contact Lenovo about getting this system serviced. These sorts of temperatures aren't normal.

P.S. I assume also that when it's plugged the T450s's air vents aren't being blocked in some way.

I've noticed this heat only comes when I plug in the Ac adapter, once I use only the battery the heat returns (49-50c).

I doubt there is a problem with the adapter, but I don't know what!

It always runs slower (and cooler) without AC, but those temperatures aren't normal.  Get it serviced.
