Trouble installing nVidia Optimus drivers under XP on ThinkPad?

Question

I'm having trouble getting the new nVidia Otimus drivers for the NVS 3100M installed under Windows XP on my ThinkPad T or W series.  I think I'm doing it right, but I keep getting the Yellow symbol with the ! on it next to the video car in device manager.  What's the deal?

Answer

The DotNet Framework version 3.5 is required to support the nVidia video control applet.  Please install the DotNet Framework prior to installing the video driver.

The DotNet 3.5 for XP is available from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=333325fd-ae52-4e35-b531-508d977d32a6&displaylang=en

I have .net installed on this XP SP3 laptop but everytime I try installing the NVidia driver the installer complains that there is no compatible hardware detected.  Any ideas?
