Hi - This is a T500 (2242CTO) running W7/64 - I've downloaded the latest Roxio Creator Business Edition and was able to burn a 4.5GB folder to a DVD+R DL disc using its Data Disc function, no problem. After completing the burn, i closed Roxio and inserted the DVD into the drive to try and read the contents, and after the drive spun up, I briefly saw the [correct] disc label (in Windows Explorer), then the drive went into Powered Off state (device manager reports the drive has been "prepared for safe removal"). It won't power up either by ejecting the tray or by right-clicking and selecting "power on". It won't even power up if I physically eject the drive and re-insert it.
Other formats, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R and DVD-RW seem to work fine.
I have to re-boot the machine to get the drive back, and while rebooting in this state, W7 hangs in the shutdown process and I have to force a shutdown with the power button (I've had no shutdown hangs otherwise).
Btw, the drive is a mat**bleep**a dvd-ram UJ862A, firmware revision SB04. I'm actively searching for info about this drive and firmware, in the meantime if anyone has any insights they would be more than welcome. Thanks!
(PS: I tried to put "Mat**bleep**a" in the "Tags" field of this message and got an error about the word "s**t" being not permitted in this community!!)

Yes, the forum's smut filter can be a little too agressive at times! ;-)

Suspect bad media - can read name-brand DVD+R DL's but not the generic ones that I bought... Case closed for now.
