Tx80 (T580) + Samsung 970 PRO/EVO M.2 NVMe SSD

Hi,

due to known compatibility issue with earlier Samsung SSDs ( Lenovo KB article , Forum post )

I wonder are the new Samsung 970 EVO and PRO fully supported, including Thermal Management?

Thanks,

  A.

Re: Tx80 (T580) + Samsung 970 PRO/EVO M.2 NVMe SSD

  • Hi ,

Have you remove out back cover and have a look the original storage device was M.2 SSD or 2.5inch SSD?

If your specs comes with normal 2.5inch SSD you need a cable upgrade and case holder for pcie m.2 SSD upgrade.

(This is capable and suitable for Samsung 970 pro Pcie m.2 SSD)

Regarding new firmware should be able download from Samsung support website.

Hi Kevliu78 - it's almost certainly supported as a storage with proper cabling, that's not the question. The question is if all firmware features are supported - like harddrive password and thermal management. As with Samsung 960 PRO, only password is. Password is not. And not even password with 950.

That is great should be supported like my older T460s upgrade from M.2 SATA to M.2 Pcie SSD.

This is workable.

Actually T580 has capable with NVMe Pcie SSD.

For all latest SSD it's work fine as well.

Kevliu78 - with all due respect, please have a look at the link to KB article I provided. Not all SSDs are fully provided - at least not all their advanced features. I need reply from Lenovo or someone who tried that already. Which may not be that easy, as the drives are pretty new.
