I recently got a Lenovo T520 with a Port replicator series 3. The only reason I wanted the replicator is because there's a USB 3.0 on there. Now connecting my Transcend 2TB external harddisk isn't recognized, where my desktop PC does.
Anyone has similar issue with the replicator and USB 3.0 ? I tried all kinds of additional drivers, but can't get it to work

Your only solutions is to get a good performing Express Slot USB 3.0 Controller. Its a cheaper solution but check spec's and driver support for it. Historically USB ports with a NEC chipset were trouble free and I alway used to buy PCI boards with them for people who needed more or upgraded ports in their towers. Stay away from VIA chipset they've been a head ache for years and I've wasted so much time with driver trying to get them working properly.
I am not sure of the throughput you're going to get for USB 3.0 channeled through the Express Slot on hte 520, Currently I have eSATA chassis with both ports on it (USB 3.0) as well with a large cooling fan and 1.5TB drive for archives and backup. I am in no rush to get a Express slot solution. When I see a deal with a good chipset and reputable OEM I'll pick one up. The eSATA port is 3GB I am sure and I make a point of picking up even 2.5" chassis with eSATA & USB ports so I can run them fast if I need to.
