USB Mass Storage Device driver is unsigned on T410 Windows 7 x64

2014-04-11, 9:41 AM

There's a "code 52" (driver is unsigned) error in properties of exclamation signed "USB Mass Storage Device" at Device Manager for different devices including usb drives of different manufactures and android phone set to usb mass storage mode

There's an F8 reboot option for Windows which disables driver signature enforcement, in which case all devices are working properly

This looks like a problem with a standard usbstor.sys driver. Microsoft support says that since Microsoft never develops drivers I should contact lenovo support

Another interesting thing is that "Driver Details" subdialog on the "Driver" pane of the device properties dialog displays different version of the driver (namely 6.1.7600.16592) then the "Driver" pane itself (which says 6.1.7601.21680). There's currently neither corresponding usbstor.inf file in "windows\inf", nor usbstor.sys file in "windows\system32\drivers" although the above information about the USB Mass Storage devices is present. I did locate several versions of this driver within windows folder, but copying them into those locations with several device uninstallations, installations and reboots didn't help

Hi Alexander,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

I’m sorry to hear that you are facing the issue with USB driver on you ThinkPad T410.

Regarding this issue I suggest you to check with updating the chipset drivers.

And also check with editing the registry as per the link given.

Hope this helps. Do post back if issue persists!

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Hi

I've installed

Intel Chipset Support for Windows 8 (32-bit, 64-bit), 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP (32-bit, 64-bit) - ThinkPad

which I downloaded from the chipset folder of drivers downloads for my laptop

Doing the driver update procedure that is described in a readme within the installed files didn't found any devices that required driver update

Regarding registry editing:

The described keys in the registry are not there already. This is probably due to the fact that this fix was previously installed, but who knows. Anyway, the problem persists even though the keys are absent

After it unpacks the chipset setup, don't have the wizard autoload the install.

Go to the path where it extracted (should be a setup file). Open a command prompt there and type setup.exe -overall. This will force a refresh of all drivers it has files for.

You will likely have to reinstall the latest Rapid Storage drivers; the above process should replace it with an older version.

I've done the "setup -overall", certain USB drivers were installed, see attachment. And rapid storage as well. However, the problem still persists, see second screenshot

In fact, the chipset package doesn't contain the required driver file because if I uninstall USB Mass Storage Device with checkbox "remove file" (or smth like that, I have win7 in russian) and then proceed with both "setup -overall" and manual driver install with a reference to the installed package directory, the system doesn't find a driver for the device
