Unable to perform factory restore, ThinkPad T530 with Windows 8

I just bough a new ThinkPad T530 with Windows 8 64bit. I was playing around with it a bit, installing different applications but then decided to do a factory reset in order to get a clean machine again. I entered the recovery utility (F11 on boot) and Windows 8 recovery utility was started and I selected the "Reset Your PC". When the action started the application asked me for installation media WHICH WAS NOT PROVIED by lenovo. After that I went back to Windows 8 and tried to make a Rescue and Recovery Disk using the Windows 8 feature but I again got the same message asking me to insert the installation disks for Windows 8. I see that my machine has the 2 Recovery Partitions, so my question is WHY CAN'T I RESTORE MY PC TO FACTORY SETTING USING THE PARTITIONS ON DISK???

My guess is you've started the Rest process without having created the Recover Disks First. You got the wheel barrow ahead of the donkey. Whether there is a way to abort that only Lenovo Techs can answer. You should call them.

Re: Unable to perform factory restore, ThinkPad T530 with Windows 8

You don't need to go into boot manager mode to do a Windows 8 "reset" or "refresh". Just go directly into the W8 reset utility. You can find it by typing "reset computer" on the Metro start screen.

If you have used the W8 recovery media utility to make a recovery USB drive and have chosen at the end of that process to delete the factory recovery partition, then thereafter you will need the USB recovery drive to complete a W8 reset.

I tried following these exact steps, but the message I got was the following: "Some required files are missing. To troubleshoot problems when your PC can't start, use your Windows Installation disk or media." This is the message I get when I try to create a recovery disk, how ironic

Call the Tech support line for guidance and if the only way is to have the DVD's now they you may have to go to a service depot for them to process a wipe with their media. Maybe Lenovo will send the DVD's but you will be waiting a few days at least before you can proceed any further and use the system.

Re: Unable to perform factory restore, ThinkPad T530 with Windows 8

Guys, I think I found a solution for this issue (no tanks to lenovo). Here goes:
Run diskpart (Win button + R) -> write DISKPART.
A command prompt like interface will appear.
Write list volume (This will list the partitions on your disk)
Locate the partition that is marked as Lenovo_Recovery (In my case was the Volume 3, 10GB size)
Select that partition using the command -> select volume 3 (since in my case was the volume 3)
Unhide the partition using the command -> assign letter g (or whatever letter you have available)
Run whatever Recovery action you like. I tried the "Create recovery disk" and "Refresh PC", in both cases prior to this fix I received a message where I was asked for the installation DVD but this case the oprations passed.
Final Step -> Hide the partition using the command, remove letter g. This will not disable the recovery functionality but will hide you partition which is a good thing so you don't mess up anything.

Re: Unable to perform factory restore, ThinkPad T530 with Windows 8

Well, I was looking at the partitions in Computer managment -> Storage and simply (out of curiosity) wanted to see what is inside the Lenovo_Recovery partition. SO I search on google to see how you unhide hidden partitions (without use of PartitionMagic or similar)
