Hi Mikie,
My 1.2 TPM is working fine, but there are many security improvements offered in the TPM 2.0 specification.
So much so that Microsoft has listed it as a minimum requirement for all new hardware since July 2016.
So TPM cannot be as irrelevant as you would suggest.
We also update the firmware on soldered chips all the time - BIOS, Chipset, etc - so why not the TPM?
HP makes firmware updates available for its TPM chips so that you can upgrade to TPM 2.0 if you need it, or downgrade to 1.2 if you intend to run an O/S that does not support 2.0.
